speakerWhat People Are Saying

As I got to know my students better, I realized that their negativity about math often stemmed from a lack of confidence, and their lack of confidence stemmed from sources that were a varied and complicated as the students themselves. It was then that I began to understand that my job wasn’t just about teaching them math. It was about teaching them math in ways that served to build their confidence as learners. That realization provided me with a new lens from which to consider the creation of my classroom culture as well as the ways in which I planned lessons, delivered instruction, and assessed my students. -- Kimberly Smith

Life in a middle school is hectic, and there have been many opportunities among our 6th grade math team where assistance was needed. Kim has always been more than willing to help, and gone above and beyond. She has become an important part of our team. She has certainly made an impact on me and the other teachers in our department. -- Cooperating Teacher
