speakerWhat People Are Saying

The first thing I do when I begin to prepare a lesson is review the standard that I intend to address. Because I practice standards-based grading, each summative assessment I create addresses the students understanding of a particular standard. I use student expectations to come up with the objectives that I intend to cover each day, leading up to the summative assessment. -- Chelsie Newman

Chelsie is a dedicated and hardworking young teacher. Her sound understanding of Biology and her desire to make it interesting and relevant to the young high school student, drive her to design lessons that are memorable and rich in experiences. The strategies she implements not only provide solid support for learning the Biology, but also build study skills for young students new to high school. -- University Supervisor

Chelsie often uses modifications during her lessons to ensure quality learning. She measures her student’s achievement through summative assessments. Before creating assessments, Chelsie breaks apart the standard and identifies the skills that the students need to know. Chelsie’s lessons align with the assessment and she creates activities that will help students become proficient in each of the standards. -- Cooperating Teacher
