  • About Our Partnership

Over the past 17 years, the Educator Preparation Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has developed and sustains excellent partnerships with our professional development schools in the Corpus Christi Independent School District. At present we are located in six schools, having been partners in three of those schools for over ten years. The field-based nature of the TAMU-CC Teacher Preparation Program lends itself to unlimited, real-world cooperative efforts in the context of working in partnership with practicing professionals in our community schools. School-site professors regularly engage in cooperative efforts with the faculty and administration of their partner schools as well as with university colleagues from Arts and Sciences and Science and Engineering.

The purpose of the partnerships has been three fold: a) to provide our pre-service teachers the pedagogical and practical experiences that will make them successful teachers; b) to provide practicing teachers in the partnerships opportunities for research and professional development on a continuous basis; and c) to improve public school student success.

  • Key Partnership Features

The Teacher Education Advisory Committee Huddle (TEACH) consists of the Associate Dean of the College of Education, public school administrators, site facilitators, and teachers from partner districts, representatives from the TAMU-CC College of Liberal Arts and Science and Technology, representatives from Del Mar Community College and Coastal Bend College, and persons from community businesses. This Council serves as a representative advisory body in the areas of (1) program review, partnership evaluation, and development; (2) selection of sites as new partner schools; (3) development of policies and procedures for the collaborative research and partnership activities; (4) recommendations of priorities, procedures, and policies for pre-service and staff development programs; and (5) feedback to graduate program areas. The council ensures that all stakeholders in the educator preparation program are engaged in partnership planning activities and monitors their success.
