  • About Our Practice

    Dr. Rebecca Fredrickson and Dr. Sarah McMahan, two faculty members at TWU, developed a summer reading program in which TWU preservice teachers were able to strengthen and develop their pedagogical knowledgeable and practice their teaching with area children during the summer months. Through the organization that we co-sponsor, the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), we developed a community reading program in conjunction with Barnes and Noble of Denton. Although we learned a great deal through this process, we were pleased that our preservice teachers were able to bring reading instruction to students through the summer. This program was totally free of charge to any students who wanted to participate. We served over 100 students throughout the summer months.

  • Key Practice Features

    By participating in the community reading program, we were able to introduce our preservice teachers to teaching in an unstructured environment which helped them to develop both their instructional planning and their classroom management. Key features of our practice include:
