  • About Our Practice

This course developed a powerful learning experience for pre-service teachers; a virtual simulation of what it is like to be a child who is impaired with Autism or Schizophrenia. The simulation takes place in the junior level Behavior Management course in the Special Education program.

  • Key Practice Features

The technology platform chosen to give the pre-service teachers the virtual simulation experience is the world for Second Life. The assignments to accompany this critical learning experience are carefully crafted to allow for scaffolding, as some students are limited in their experiences with this type of technology. Undergraduate pre-service teachers are sent to two simulations in order to virtually experience the disabilities.
