  • About Our Program

    The Texas Christian University English Language Arts/Reading and ESL program in the College of Education engages students in theory and practices that guide them in becoming culturally responsive educators. Our faculty-identified knowledge base, applications and attitudes help new teachers to develop the commitment and skills to teach culturally and linguistically diverse students. Program coursework reflects exemplary field-based instructional practices and helps teacher candidates consistently relate theory to practice.

  • Key Program Features

    To educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community is more than just the mission of Texas Christian University—it is a practice built into our field-based instructional practices within the College of Education. Key features of the Texas Christian University ELA Reading/ESL Program include:

    • In-depth exposure to students from diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Consistent integration of technology into instruction
    • Experience applying a variety of methods to help academically struggling students
    • Familiarity working with families of first-generation immigrants to involve them in academic life

 

 

Field-Based Learning

Field-based learning opportunities allow teacher candidates to integrate academic and practitioner knowledge.  Field-based programs allow teacher candidates to:

  2. Reflect, analyze and improve
